How to Renew Your BLS Certification in Northern Arizona

A step-by-step guide for healthcare providers, first responders, and anyone holding an American Heart Association BLS credential. Keep your certification current and stay ready for emergencies.

When Do You Need to Renew?

AHA BLS Provider certifications are valid for two years from the issue date printed on your card. Most employers and licensing boards require an unexpired card, so plan to renew before the expiration date. We recommend scheduling your renewal class 4–6 weeks in advance to avoid a lapse.

How to Renew AHA BLS Certification

Renewing your BLS certification is straightforward. Follow these steps to stay compliant and confident in your skills.

1

Check your expiration date

Look at the back of your current AHA BLS Provider card. The expiration date is printed near the bottom. If your card has already expired, you can still take a renewal (refresher) course in most cases — just let your instructor know.
2

Choose a renewal class format

We offer instructor-led renewal courses designed for people who have held BLS certification before. These sessions focus on updates to AHA guidelines, skill practice, and the required testing — not a full ground-up course.
3

Register online

Browse our upcoming BLS renewal classes below and reserve your seat. Classes fill up quickly, especially near the end of the month when many providers' cards expire. Online booking takes about two minutes.
4

Attend class and pass the skills check

Bring your current or expired BLS card if you have it. The renewal class includes a review of adult, child, and infant CPR; AED use; and team dynamics. You will complete a skills check and a written exam during the session.
5

Receive your new card same day

After successfully completing the course, you receive a new AHA BLS Provider completion card the same day. The new expiration date is set two years from the course date.

What to Expect in a Renewal Class

BLS renewal classes are shorter than initial certification and assume you are familiar with the core concepts. Expect a fast-paced review with plenty of hands-on time.

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • AED operation and safety considerations
  • Bag-mask ventilation and team resuscitation dynamics
  • Relief of choking for responsive and unresponsive victims
  • Written exam (25 questions, passing score 84%)
  • Hands-on skills test with feedback devices

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I renew BLS online only?

The AHA does not offer a 100% online BLS renewal for healthcare providers. You must complete an in-person skills session with a certified AHA instructor to receive a valid BLS Provider card.

What if my BLS card is already expired?

If your card expired within the last 30 days, you can usually still take a renewal course. If it has been longer, an initial certification course may be recommended. Contact us and we will help you choose the right option.

How long is the renewal class?

BLS renewal classes typically run about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on class size and discussion. This is shorter than the initial 4.5-hour certification course.

Will my employer accept this certification?

Yes. We issue official American Heart Association BLS Provider eCards accepted by hospitals, clinics, dental offices, schools, and EMS agencies nationwide.

Do I need to bring my old card?

Bring it if you have it. Instructors may use it to verify prior certification, but it is not always required. A photo ID is required for all students.

Can I renew ACLS or PALS too?

We focus on BLS, CPR, AED, and First Aid. Contact us if you need ACLS or PALS renewal recommendations in the Northern Arizona area.
